OOTP Baseball Classic League Updates

Here are some pics of the Senators from that era..

When OOTP 18 comes out in February or March, I'll commence with BCL 5. Meanwhile I will take a break from baseball sims and get into some other gaming. But here is the projected league that will be known as BCL5. The current World Series champs, 1925 Washington Senators are in the AL East. There will not be a 19th century team anymore but I've added an additional team from the 2010s. Welcome the 2016 Chicago Cubs!

The 1925 Washington Senators are your new BCL World Series champs! They defeated the 1977 Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 at Dodger Stadium in an afternoon game behind a couple of Ossie Bluege doubles and decent pitching from George Mogridge and Dutch Ruether. The Dodgers get the series' first and only home run in a losing cause. The Dodgers did lead this game at one point and tried to make a game of it, but Washington too the once hot Doug Rau out in the 6th and kept LA from scoring anymore. The Dodgers were the comeback kids of the NLCS and end of regular season with defeats of the 1906 Chicago Cubs and 1909 Pittsburg Pirates but Washington proved too much for them. The Senators move onto the next BCL League which is close to being set. Series MVP was Joe Judge.

The 1925 Washington Senators have taken a commanding 3-1 lead in the World Series over the 1977 Los Angeles Dodgers. LA lost 10-6 to Washington despite their best effort to make it close in the 7th inning. The Senators need one more win to be crowned World Series champs of Baseball Classic League #4. In League #2, the 1933 Washington Senators won it all as well. Next game will be in LA at Dodger Stadium as a day game. Apparently the Senators loved those night games..

In Game 3, it was like Game 1 for Washington, as Dutch Ruether dominated the 1977 Dodgers on 4 hits. Both teams are going back and forth with great pitching performances. The 1925 Senators lead the World Series 2-1 now. Another LA night game next..

The 1977 Dodgers hit enough doubles off Stan Coveleski  to win the game. Coveleski struck out 10 but wasn't able to subdue the Dodgers enough for the win. Washington only had 5 hits as Don Sutton just shut them down as Walter Johnson did to LA in Game 1.

In Game 1 of the World Series, Walter Johnson struck out 13 until he go injured in the 8th inning. Then the relief gave up some runs to the Dodgers...but all the LA heros like Cey and Garvey were pretty much shut down by Johnson. Complete dominance by Washington. Now the question is how injured is Walter Johnson? Game 2 at Griffith Stadium next.. UPDATE! Walter Johnson is day to day with hand soreness...so he should be ready for his next start in the World Series.

The 1977 Dodgers who were at one time in last place, pulled off a miracle finish in the NLCS as they beat the 1909 Pirates 5-4 in Game 5. Davey Lopes who didn't play much during the season won it on a base hit gaming winner putting the Dodgers in the World Series. They face the 1925 Washington Senators next. A sad end to Honus Wagner's great season, but the Dodgers are the comeback kids...

The 1925 Washington Senators defeat the 1919 Chicago White Sox in 3 game to 1 to move onto the World Series! Decent performance from Tom Zachary led the way in Game 4 with both Joes (Harris and Judge) adding doubles for the win. Bad news for Washington as Roger Peckinpaugh was injured but hopefully he'll be back in time for the World Series. The Black Sox really should of lost game 1 vs Walter Johnson, but their comeback win extended the series to 4 games. Next up for the Senators is either 1909 Pirates or 1977 Dodgers.

A hour and half rain delay ruined a perfectly good pitcher's duel between Dickie Kerr and Dutch Ruether. Both starters out of the game in 4th inning, the relief promptly started giving up runs. It was not until starter Walter Johnson entered the game that things calmed down for Washington. Gandil had a great game for Chicago, but Sam Rice won it for the Senators. Rain has marred a couple of games in this series. Game 4 hopefully rain free next..

Game 4 was pretty ho hum for the Pirates...the Dodgers suddenly cooled off. Kinda the result I expected. Game 5 next in LA.

Game 3 of the NLCS, post crash, and the Dodgers came back to win 7-6 despite the Pirates trying to come back in bottom of the 9th. Davey Lopes who was basically replaced during the season by Ted Martinez hit a 2 run HR off Deacon Phillippe to win it for LA. And no Frock and Sutton aren't starting the next game....

Back on track now after the crash in the NLCS....in the ALCS, another good game as the Senators held on in the 9th to win 7-5. Sam Rice was the MVP of the game...series tied at 1 now.

Right in the middle of this game 2x, OOTP crashed on me. First time the Pirates led 7-1. Then on restart Dodgers starting winning 6-4. So then I just erased that game and created a new one. Well.. the fatigue levels are still there and the stats. About 4 innings in the score was ridiculous, so I just automated the rest of it. Here's the result. Not much to say. Dodgers won. Series tied at 1 now. 😠

In a entertaining game at Comiskey, The 1919 White Sox came back to beat the 1925 Senators. Goose Goslin started it off in the 1st with a 3 run bomb to give Washington the early lead. They held on to that lead until Chicago chipped away to tie it up by the 9th. Chick Gandil wins it in the 10th even though Walter Johnson had an excellent performance.

The 1909 Pirates win a close one against the 1977 Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in an afternoon game in Game 1 of the NLCS. The hot Doug Rau was outdueled by the other hot starter, Howie Camnitz. Ron Cey had another homer in a losing effort.

The Pirates held off the Mets and Braves in the NL East, meanwhile the Cubs fell hard in the NL West. Dodgers overtook them in the 1 game playoff. Two teams headed in opposite directions. Dodgers started 1-6 while Cubs started 8-0 then LA gets hot going 9-1 while Chicago falls out of contention going 1-8. The 1968 Cardinals couldn't relive the magic of League 3 by repeating as WS champs. Sadly my 1950 Phillies sucked from start to finish. In the AL, the Senators held off both Yankee teams, the Red Sox at one point even Philly in the beginning of the season to win the East. In the West, the 1919 Black Sox dominated pretty much except for a late charging Rangers team that almost took them out in the last week. Oakland, Milwaukee and even Detroit had chances at 1st place but never could get enough momentum.

1977 Dodgers defeated the 1906 Cubs again, this time at Dodger Stadium in a dominant 6-1 win. The Dodgers at one point were in last place then got hot. The Cubs lead and were dominating the NL West most of the season until the last 2 months. They went 1-8 after starting 8-0. The Dodgers move on to face the 1909 Pirates in the NLCS.

The red hot 1977 LA Dodgers beat back Three Finger Brown and the 1906 Cubs at West Side Grounds forcing a 1 game playoff. Both teams are tied for 1st after 16 games. The next game will be at Dodger Stadium.

Well, the Braves were winning this 3-1 in the 3rd inning before the damn game decided to crash. So I had to restart. Then they proceeded to lose badly. 1909 Pirates take NL East.

The 1919 Black Sox defeat the 2011 Rangers behind 3 doubles from Shoeless Joe and an excellent outing from Dickie Kerr...The Rangers were one of the hottest teams in the later half of the season.

The final countdown! The final games will be played in the BCL with 3 key match ups... and then the standings after 15 games. 1 more left. Washington took the AL East and now it's down to these 3 matchups to determine the other division winners. Then playoffs begin! If Texas which has really been on a roll win, or LA wins then it'll be a 1 game wild card playoff.

A couple of teams are now out of contention but for most it's too close. The 1968 Cardinals will not repeat as World Series Champs.

Latest standings after 13 games..everything is still pretty close. Hopefully all will be decided in last few games..

Things are taking a turn. The Atlanta Braves take first place. the Cubs falter but stay in 1st, White Sox still "dominating" the AL West and AL East is a 3 way tie! Final games of the season will hopefully decide it all in a wild finish. Watch out for the Texas Rangers as they have won 5 in a row and are rising....Also the Phillies at this point have been eliminated from contention. Kinda sad since I am a Phillies fan. :(

Things are getting too close for my taste...the race is wide open in almost every division! Cubs still dominating despite losing 3 games in a row. The teams dominating early are faltering while the struggling teams are now on winning streaks!

No one dominating except Cubs and White Sox. But Cubs have lost a couple...league in flux.

Eight games in. Cubs continue to dominate. Mets and Pirates battle in NL East. Meanwhile 3 way race for AL East and White Sox seem to have taken control in AL West.

Things changing up and getting interesting now...

Due to the low views, I will only post standings after each round. And then follow post each game during the post season.

At Fulton County Stadium, the 95 Braves lost again..this time to the 34 Tigers 3-1. Tommy Bridges just outdueled Tom Glavine and the Tigers scored all in the early innings.

At Sportsman Park, it took extra innings for the 1962 San Francisco Giants to win against the 1922 St. Louis Browns 4-2. Good pitcher's duel up till the 11th inning then SF pulled away with the win.

In Toronto at SkyDome, the 1906 Cubs hang on to win against the 1992 Blue Jays 3-2 in 10 innings. Frank Chance won in with a double in the 10th for the Cubbies. Jack Pfiester pitched well enough for the win with 9 k's. Blue Jays' Jimmy Key pitched well to with 9 k's but it wasn't enough as relief pitching lost it.

At Coors Field in Denver, the 1911 A's overcame a late rally from the 2007 Rockies to win 9-7. Philly was hitting on all cylinders until the relief pitching came in for Plank in the 7th inning.But the A's held on to win improving to 2-0, while Colorado drops to 0-2.

At Fenway Park, the 2004 Red Sox defeated the 1977 Dodgers 6-4. Both teams came out of the gates swinging and both pitchers struggled. Tommy John and Curt Schilling (@gehrig38) both didn't have much command early on but finally settled in. Kevin Millar went 4-4 while Schilling struck out 8. Keith Foulke had the save. The 2004 Red Sox pick for this league was a nod to fellow OOTP gamer and big Red Sox fan, (and Twitter follower) @ThePeskyPole6 for his suggestion of a Red Sox team. I had been wanting to use the 04 Sox, so that was for him. It'll be interesting to see how they do. Anyone has any more suggestions for the next league, give them to me. Thanks.

In another 1 run game, the 1939 Yankees eke out a win over the 1988 Mets 3-2 in 11 innings. Both starting pitchers had 11 k's but gave up too many hits to make this close. Finally Charlie Keller put an end to it with his single that won it for the Bronx Bombers. The 1939 Yankees are #1 on the ELO chart so it'll be interesting to see how they do.

At Candlestick Park, the 1972 Oakland A's came back late to beat the 1962 San Francisco Giants 3-2. Gene Tenace won it for the A's with a solo HR in the 8th. Reggie Jackson added an RBI in the game. Catfish Hunter won it with 8 k's. Rollie Fingers got the save.
